Written from a secular perspective, this is an excellent introduction to what subjects are generally taught in each grade level in American schools. The book is divided into chapters by grade level, with each chapter setting out the topics that should be mastered for that year. The topics are broken up into Language Arts, Mathematics, History, Science, Foreign Language, Art, Music, and Health and Physical Education. Suggested books for each topic are given, as well as some Internet and other resources.

As noted, this is not religiously based, and thus may not be acceptable for those folks looking for that style of homeschooling. However, if you’re looking for a general introduction to what is generally taught in public schools, this would be a great spot to start. This is not a work concerned with how to teach, but rather covers what to teach and when.
